German supermarket chain Lidl Stiftung has opened a flagship store on JD Worldwide, introducing the Lidl brand to China through cross-border e-commerce. The German group’s flagship store sells snacks, healthcare products, personal and beauty care products, and food and drinks, such as biscuits, nuts and milk. It also plans to introduce home brands. Lidl has more than 10,000 stores across 30 countries, and 150 distribution centres in 28 countries.
On September 28 2017, Lidl Tmall international online store was officially launched. It declared the European leading chain discounter has officially entered the Chinese online market. Maarten-jan Koster, CEO of Lidl Asia Limited, said that this is Lidl’s first attempt to enter a new overseas market through cross-border e-commerce.
